Hi Guys,

We accept a 4month old Roborovski female hamster, who we totally adore. And now we're quite worried because, we take an upcoming holiday of nigh 13days and nosotros can't have her along with the states, nor do we have anyone who can look later on her while nosotros're gone, so it'll be actually nice if you all could give us some suggestions on what to do to make certain she's hail & healthy while nosotros're away.

P.South - We've left her in our house for 5days before, with food stocked upward and h2o too, she managed fine then, but now its a longer menstruum, hence this postal service.

Also another prob nosotros're having from a couple of days is that she has suddenly become ambitious and hyper-active...when we go virtually her say hi and try to go most her she bites! First we thot she ws just hungry, so gave her treats, filled up her food over again, but she notwithstanding doesn't seem happy, as before long as she comes to scent my fingers...next thing she does it seize with teeth...I googled this behaviour and from what I could assemble was that she's going thru kind of a puberty period...not sure how to calm her down...any help would exist appreciated! :scratchchin:

Thanks for your time and ideas!

:gardener:

Do you have someone who can maybe just drop by every few days to check if she's okay (like a relative or neighbor) and replenish her nutrient and water? :) I wouldn't recommend leaving her lonely for thirteen days, I'd worry almost keeping her alone that long :P

No there'south noone who could aid... plus even we cud coerce someone to come n take a look, we wouldn't trust them with her...What if they try to handle her or fifty-fifty but open d muzzle to fill up her food and she jumps out or does something else... we don't want to risk it!

And a funny matter, my husband doesn't want her to become used to or exposed to someone else'due south scent other than ours!... and then stuck! :dizzy:

Do y'all have any pet walkers in your expanse? We utilize one virtually us who comes in and plays with, feeds and waters Buster while nosotros are abroad. She charges us £v per visit but information technology's worth it to know that Buster is gonna be OK.

As DomesticWitch pointed out to me, a hammie can become unwell very quickly and need to be checked every 24 hours to make sure that they're OK and if not, to do something almost it promptly.

I definitely wouldn't leave her lonely for 13 days with out someone coming in to cheque on her. To be honest, your husband's reasoning about not wanting her to get used to someone elses olfactory property is a little silly. I would rather chance her getting used to someone's scent than leaving her by herself for 2 weeks. Like someone else said, hamsters can get ill and go downward colina really fast, so she shouldn't be left lonely that long. Even if you merely had someone come in and check on her/feed/water you could tell them that you would rather them non try and hold her considering she is a little jumpy. When I was younger my brother's friend fed my guinea pig while my family was away and I remember leaving a little note on his muzzle telling him to make certain information technology was closed and to locate the guinea pig earlier he closed the cage and left.

If y'all are absolutely unable to accept someone come past, take you talked to a local vet? Some vets around me will lath small animals for people, and I am pretty sure they don't charge as well much.

But, if all else fails and you are going to get out her lone for the two weeks, make certain you put a lot of actress bedding in there so she can stay warm, give her a couple food bowls total of food, and I would suggest putting more than i h2o bottle in there. She may non beverage a whole one, simply in case i breaks or falls off, in that location is a support. Give her lots of chew toys and things to do because she will definitely be bored. Again, I wouldn't suggest leaving her alone the entire time and I definitely wouldn't want to go out mine solitary for 2 weeks just those are the only things I can call back to tell you lot for if y'all practise leave her alone.

As for the last scrap, is your cage big enough? Sometimes hamsters go stir crazy in modest cages, maybe she is simply bored? :)

thanku all for your ideas...

I don't think we have any other choice except to leave her alone for 2 weeks :embarassed:

As crazy equally it sounds...i'g planning to setup her cage in front of our calculator and leave skype on auto mode, so to check upwardly on her whenever we want! I really promise that works and nosotros cn be a little less worried. Any other ideas too welcome! :scratchchin:

@henrietta...We have a medium sized cage for her, so I dont think that is the problem, we also take enough toys and gnawing material within, but she'south still worked up in some strange way... demand to figure that out more!

Definitely have two nutrient bowls and 2 water bottles for her.
I recollect it's a pitty she'll be two weeks without fresh food or water, I would never practise that to my hamster, only if that'due south your only choice, let'south hope she'll get in alright.

I would connect her muzzle to a bin and so she has more space in example she'south bored, too.

Another thing is, after two weeks with no man interaction, she'll likely be uncomfortable around man contact when you lot come back. I don't get why your husband doesn't desire the hamster to be dainty towards humans?

if you do program leaving her for 2 weeks like skywilling said make sure she has 2 food dishs and 2 h2o bottles perhaps go a treat stick, so she tin can gnaw on that, also you tin can scatter some nutrient around, and your gonna wanna make certain you lot lock up the cage adept so she doesn't escape while your gone then you could put a clip or something on the cage door, And like skywilling said over again maybe you could attach her cage to a bin so whens she's bored she has more than space, also if you want to continue her decorated you tin can brand some boredom breakers similar this or like this

How big is your muzzle exactly? We can't quess how large information technology is without the dimensions. It is possible that since your hamster has all of a sudden becom aggressive he tin can be ill right now. But if he's in a small cage it could explain something, or he can just he cage territorial which decreases equally the size of the cage is expanded.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but it's totally irresponsible to leave a pet on it's ain for so long. According to the laws here, this would definitely count every bit neglect even if you exit a lot of nutrient and water. And your husband non liking the hamster to become accustomed to someone else'south smell is a childish and selfish notion - he'd really rather take her Dice than having to (in the worst case) re-tame her?!? <wadawada>?!? Tell him to grow upward.

I tin understand if yous don't want to let a sitter into your house or apartment - when yous take valuables there and are new to a metropolis and don't nevertheless know people all that well that is not a comfy feeling. But well, then merely board her somewhere! It'south not like your muzzle would be and so large you lot couldn't transport information technology. Ask the vet, ask an animal sitter, inquire at the pet shop, ask at a shelter. ANYONE who is not a total idiot will be better than leaving her alone. Simply go over everything with the sitter beforehand and write them a list and it will be fine - how much nutrient and when, how to handle, the phone number of your preferred vet, etc. And leave them some emergency money in case a vet trip does become necessary.

And no, skype won't prepare things. Because your computer tin can't bulldoze her to the vet if she gets sick or prepare the water bottle when it leaks and floods the cage. Remember Murphy'south law - everything that can get wrong WILL go wrong. You are adults and this is a planned vacation. It'south your responsibility to arrange something responsible for your pet, also.

I'm sorry that this sounds unfriendly but this is a total no-become. I repeat: this would be illegal past constabulary around hither and rightly so.
